LOUIS S. BALOG
Latham- Louis S. Balog, 85 of Latham, passed on to eternal rest Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Northwoods at Troy.
Born in Cohoes on November 30, 1922, he was the son of the late Frank and Anna (Marczyk) Balog. He was an Army veteran who served during World War II, serving from 1943 with the Searchlight Skylighters Battalion Battery C. He also landed on Normandy shortly after the main invasion. He was discharged in 1945. He met his wife the former Mary Mealo at Crystal Lake. They were married for 45 years prior to her passing on February 15, 1998. Louis enjoyed summer vacations to Florida, Wildwood, NJ and York Beach Maine with his family and friends. He maintained a strong interest in WWII history and sharing this history with his grandchildren, which also became a point of interest to them also. Louis was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham.
He was employed with the Watervliet Arsenal as a Locomotive engineer, a position he retired from in 1981.
Louis is survived by his 3 loving children: Louis (Maura) T. Balog of Delanson; Lauren (James) MacDonald of Brunswick and Michael Balog of Clifton Park as well as his 3 cherished grandsons Christopher, Andrew and Nicholas Balog
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham where Louiss Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Fr. Geoffrey Burke.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call Tuesday from 5-7 pm at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, Ltd., 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY.
In lieu of Flowers memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Rd., Latham, NY 12110.
The family would like to thank the staff at Northwoods at Rose Gardens in Rensselaer and Northwoods at Troy for their care they gave towards Lou.
Entombment will take place in St. Agnes Mausoleum, Menands.
