PETER B. DELEHANTY
Latham-Peter B. Delehanty, a resident of Latham, died peacefully in his sleep on January 20, 2013.
He was born in Albany on November 10, 1937 to Edward J. and Katherine J. (DeJordy) Delehanty. After graduation from Iona College, Peter worked at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City and later for the Westchester County Department of Social Services in White Plains. He retired in 2002 and moved back to the Albany area in 2005.
In White Plains, Peter was a member of the Our Lady of Sorrows parish and sang with a barbershop harmony chorus The Westchester Chordsmen. In Albany, he was a member of the St. Ambrose parish and sang with the Uncle Sam Chorus and with the Dave Whitford Joyous Sound, a barbershop gospel chorus. He was an avid bicyclist and model train enthusiast.
He is survived by his daughter Kristin Henninger, her husband Michael and their children Sarah and Adam of Ft. Collins, Colorado; and brothers Edward J. Delehanty III of Latham, NY and Stephen J. Delehanty of The Bronx, NY.
Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday January 23, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home 149 Old Loudon Road in Latham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Thursday January 24 at St. Ambrose Church 347 Old Loudon Road in Latham.
Music was Peter's lifelong joy. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Harmony Foundation in memory of Peter Delehanty. The organization which funds music education for children can be contacted at hf@harmonyfoundation.org.
