I had the pleasure of knowing both John and Winona of recent months. Winona came to Livingston Hills Nursing Home and Rehab shortly after John. On her arrival I took her to the Resident's dining room on our East Wing where John was lunching. He didn't recognize her, but she recognized him and called him by name.
Just before her passing, I was told by the staff on our South Wing that he was taken to her and he recounted their life together. He recounted that she ruled their house "with an iron fist". He not only remebered, but told the staff of their lives together.
I was happy to know that in the end, he not only recognized her, but remembered some of their life together, when it mattered.
God bless you, the family and hold dear the happy memories you all must have and cherish.
