Obituary of Casmir "Cas" W. Galka

CASMIR W. GALKA Latham- Casmir "Cas" W. Galka, 64 of Latham, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 24 at Albany Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side. Born in Riverhead, Long Island on July 30, 1946, he was the son of the late Casimir P. and Sophie (Tradeski) Galka. Cas was married to the former Anita Bucello and the two shared a blessed union of almost 39 years together. Cas was a Sergeant 1st class and 26 year veteran with the US Army Reserves, serving as an Army Nurse with the 364th General Hospital. He was an insurance underwriter with The Hartford Insurance Company in Albany for 25 years, he then accepted a position with AIG in Latham both positions he retired from. Cas was an avid golfer & cyclist enthusiast and he truly enjoyed playing with his grandchildren & his dog Shaymus. He was also a member of the HVCC Baseball Hall of Fame as a pitcher. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife: Anita, include his loving daughters: Christine (John Jr.) Piscitella of Newburgh NY & Kimberly (Andrew) Charest of Springfield, MA; 3 cherished grandchildren Vivian & Lena Piscitella and Evan Charest as well as his brother: Steven Galka of Albany. Cas was predeceased by his daughter Lisa Ann Galka. The family would like to thank the 6th floor nurses station at Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion they gave toward Cas. Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday April 27 from 4-7 pm at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 9:00 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham. Fr.
