SIDNEY BROWN Albany- Sidney Brown, 90 of Albany, beloved husband of Margaret M. Sommerville, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center in Albany. Born in Czechoslovakia on April 26, 1920, he was the son of the late Martin and Helen Brown. Sidney proudly served in the US Army and was at the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944 and was awarded the Bronze Star. Sidney worked for Manufactures Jewelers, Montgomery Ward and Mayfair Jewelers as a self employed watch maker. In addition to his beloved wife he leaves to cherish his memory his step-daughter: Sybille Cowan of Albany, step-son Peter (Barb) Sommerville, his 5 loved grandchildren: Juliet (Peter) Van Kampen, Peter (Helena) Cowan, Jamie (Eoin) O'Riordan, Ashley (Jim) Niemie, Sean D'Allessandro and his 7 adored great grandchildren: Nick Van Kampen, Teddy Van Kampen, Greg Van Kampen, Isabella Cowan, Julia Cowan, Travis Niemie and Tyler Niemie as well as his sister Lee (Hymen) Alpert of MD & brothers Murray and Harold Brown. He is predeceased by his brother Irving Brown and his first wife Florence Brown. Memorial services will be held at Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville on Tuesday March 15, 2011 at 1:00 pm The family wishes to thank the staff of the Blue Unit at the Daughters of Sarah nursing Center for their care and compassion they gave toward Sidney.
