KATHRYN DOROTHY GONZALEZ
Albany- Kathryn Dorothy Gonzalez, 55 of Albany and beloved partner of Richard M. Lipe, died Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Albany Medical Center.
Born and educated in Catskill, she was the daughter of the late Victor H. Blom Jr. and Dorothy (Strang) Blom. Kathryn was a graduate of Coxsackie-Athens High School class of 1971. She graduated from the Albany Occupational Center Practical Nursing Program in 1978 with the highest scholastic average in her class. Kathy received her Bachelors Degree "Cum Laude" in American Studies from the College of Saint Rose in December of 2004. She worked as a psychiatric nurse at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Albany during the 1970's and 1980's where she received the Florence Nightingale Award for dedication to hospitalized veterans. She then worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 1987 until her retirement in July 2008 as a Statistical Assistant in the USDA -NASS N.Y. Field office.
Kathy enjoyed canoeing, hiking, music, movies, vacationing in Sedona Arizona and Myrtle Beach.
Survivors in include her partner Richard M. Lipe her brothers Kenneth G. (Carol) Blom of Porters Corners, NY and Dave Blom of Coxsackie, her nieces and nephews Dave Blom (wife Melissa, children Danielle and Nicholas) of Sherrill, NY, Matthew Blom (wife Kristen) of North Syracuse, Amy Blom and Chris of Charlotte, NC, Rebecca Carle (husband Nate and children Peter & Helen) of New Boston, NY.
Funeral services will be held Thursday November 13, 2008 at 10:00 am in Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, Ltd., 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home.
Interment Oakwood Cemetery,Troy.
The family would like to thank the staff and doctors of the New York Oncology Hematology as well as the Albany Medical Center for the care and compassion given to Kathy during her illness.
