LEO F. VANE SR.
LATHAM – Leo Francis Vane, Sr., 91 of Latham, beloved husband of 72 years to Shirley (Barber) Vane passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 23rd, 2023.
Born on September 2nd, 1932 in Albany he was the son of the late Bernard and Mae (Miller) Vane. Leo graduated from Albany High School. He served honorably in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1955 as a Naval Fireman. During his time in service Leo was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He would then go on to begin his career as a Machinist Supervisor at the Watervliet Arsenal.
In addition to his beloved wife Leo is survived by his two sons Leo F. (Annie) Vane Jr. and Stephen Vane. Also survived by two grandchildren Cole Vane and Duke Ellrich. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his two daughters Nancy Ellrich and Kim Vane as well as his siblings Bernard Vane, Jack Vane, Kathryn Lipinskas, and Jean Daniels.
Leo was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed golfing and was a shuffleboard champion. He was a founding and honorary life member of The Verdoy Fire Department and also belonged to the Colonie Elks and the Niskayuna Reformed Church. He will be eternally cherished by all of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, November 29th, 2023 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham. A prayer service will begin at 5:30 PM.
Interment with military honors will take place on Thursday, November 30th, 2023 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Services at the cemetery will begin at 10:30 AM. Procession to depart the funeral home at 9:30 AM.
