Such a sad passing. Richard will be missed by many. He left us with a world full of cherished
memories. I would like to share a poem that he liked very much.
from The Porcine Canticles by David Lee.
And came forth like Venus from an ocean of
heat waves, morning in his pockets and the buckets in
his hands
he emerged from the grey shed, tobacco and wind
pursed together in song from his tight lips he gathered day
and went out to cast wheat before swine. And in
his mind he sang songs and thought thoughts, images
of clay
and heat, wind and sweat, dreams of silver and
visions of green earth twisting the cups of his mind
he crossed his fence of wire, the south Utah steppes
bending the air into corners of sky he entered
the yard to feed his swine. And his pigs, they come.
Richard wrote on this poem "This just gets better with each reading."

Sandy, Christian, Jennifer & your families:
I was saddened to hear of Richard's passing. We were good pals since we were in our early teens. He was a great and loyal friend always, especially when we were young and had our fair share of misadventures.
He had a great sense of humor, he could make anyone around him laugh, cry and shoot beer (or wine) out of their noses. He could be very witty, and could come up with some really funny, cutting quips.
He picked up the "Boli Boli" nickname as a teenager, when he got a Beatle's style haircut. The kids all thought he looked like Paul, and he did - plus he had a bit of an English accent. He was a magnet for girls and sometimes I was lucky enough to benefit from his spillovers.
We were friends through all the years after, and he was someone who I could and did always count on.
I loved him, and will miss him always
Jim Demetrops

I met and became friends with Boli-Boli (Richard) in 1964. We were members of Tremain, a houseplan started at CCNY.
While everyone grows up and goes their separate ways, we managed to stay in touch with annual reunions of the larger group and smaller reunions and lunches. Basically, we kept in touch to some degree or another.

I knew Richard for 50 years. He first helped my father part-time as a pharmacist at our pharmacy in Woodstock while I was finishing up at Albany College of Pharmacy. Even after he got his job with the NYS Bureau of Narcotics, he continued to fill in some nights at my pharmacy and we became close friends. We both enjoyed writing and we co-wrote a health column for the Daily Freeman.
I first took Richard, along with many of our friends, to Lake St Patrick in Quebec on a fishing trip in 1996. It would be something we would repeat every summer for the next 20 years. The memories of such good times there will last forever. Richard, who grew up in
the Bronx, fell in love with the Canadian wilderness. The first year at the lake, using a Sears fishing pole that was not much more than a toy, he landed a 20 lb Northern pike. His best trips were the times his son Chris came with us. Richard was a very proud father of his two wonderful children Chris and Jennifer.
His greatest legacy will be all the help he gave to those affected by substance abuse. Through his positions at the Bureau of Narcotics, the NYS Professional Assistance Program (PAP) and as a member of the Pharmacy Recovery Network (PRN), Richard gave hope to dozens of suffering healthcare professionals and others throughout the state. He saved many lives, including mine.
Rest In Peace, my dear friend. I will never forget our friendship and the wisdom you bestowed on me and so many others.
