JOSEPH J. DELAP
Colonie- Joseph J. DeLap, 85, a lifelong resident of Colonie, passed away peacefully on Thursday November 8, 2018 at the Teresian House with his loving family by his side.
Born in Colonie on July 29, 1933, he was the son of the late Freeman and Anna (Krug) DeLap. Joe was married to Janet M. (Dunn) on January 4, 1953 and the two had shared a mutual love and devotion for 64 years prior to her passing on December 22, 2017.
Joe was an Insurance Adjuster as well as the President and Owner of Charles R. Mead Inc. in Colonie.
He was also a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham. Joe was a member of the Professional Insurance Agents and the Independent Insurance Agents. He also held every position for the Albany Claims Association and Albany Field Club. In 1998, he was awarded the Insurance Adjuster of the Year by the Capital District Insurance Community and he was also a past member of the Colonie Elks #2192.
Joe is survived by his loving daughter: Debra (Patrick Mastro) A. Heider of Latham; his cherished grandson: Gregory (Kara) Heider, two adored great grandchildren: Mallory and Gavin Heider as well as his siblings: John (Gloria) DeLap, Norman (Eileen) DeLap and his sister in law Sharon (Chet) Boehlke and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Anna "Sis" Toomey.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of the Teresian House for their care and compassion towards Joe.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday November 12, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 am at the Dufresne and Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham.
Joe's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday November 13 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham with Fr. Geoffrey Burke officiating.
Interment will take place next to his beloved Janet in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Albany.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Joe's memory to Community Hospice Foundation, 310 S. Manning Blvd Albany NY 12208 or the Teresian House, 200 Washington Ave Ext, Albany, NY 12203
