CONSTANCE M. SWEENEY
Colonie-Constance "Connie" M. Sweeney 78, of Colonie, beloved wife of the late George F. Sweeney Jr., entered into eternal life on Saturday January 21, 2017 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland
Born in Brooklyn on June 15th 1938, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. Sr. and Rose M. (Kluepfel) Smith. Constance married her beloved George Sweeney Jr. on June 13, 1959, cherishing 54 years of marriage before his passing March 22, 2013.
Connie was a Graduate of Bishop McDonell Memorial High School. She was a District Manager for Albany's Capital Newspaper for Fifteen years before retirement in 1999. She's also a former member of the Colonie Elks #2192.
Survivors include her loving children Connie (Donald) Vandewater of Bethel, CT, George F. III (Cathy) Sweeney of Levittown, PA and Michael (Mary) Sweeney of Latham. She is also survived by her sisters Rose McMahon and Sr. Regina Rosaire O.P., her brother Charles E. Jr. (Jane Dee) Smith of Commack. She is also survived by her six cherished grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Connie was predeceased by her grandson Thomas.
Her Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday January 24, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of The Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham with Rev. Geoffrey Burke officiating.
Relatives and Friends are invited and may call on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road Latham.
Interment will take place next to her husband in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Our Lady of the Assumption Church 498 Watervliet-Shaker Rd. Latham, NY 12110 would be appreciated.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Our Lady of Mercy especially those on the Guadalupe unit for their care of Connie during the past year.
