JAMES J. MANTAS
Clifton Park- James J. Mantas, 81 of Clifton Park, beloved husband of the late Ann Mantas, entered into eternal life on Sunday, December 11, 2016 in the comfort of his son's home with his loving family by his side.
Born in Chicago, IL on November 20, 1935, he was the son of the late John J. and Theofani (Demopulas) Mantas. Jim proudly served as a First Lieutenant and Airborne Ranger in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He also attended the University of Illinois where he was a member of Theta Xi Fraternity. It was on September 20, 1955 that he married the love of his life, the former Ann Angelos, the two had shared a loving union of over 61 years prior to her passing one week ago on December 4, 2016.
He was the former owner and operator of three McDonald's franchises in Schenectady. Jim along with his wife Ann worked alongside their son John at Mike's Restaurant in Schenectady. Jim was the former General Manager of Lindon's furniture and appliances, General Manager of Pipers Carpet Warehouse and owner of Moore Brothers Furniture & Appliance all in Chicago. He was a longtime and dedicated member of the St. George's Greek Orthodox Church in Schenectady and an avid golfer and longtime member of the Edison Club in Rexford where he had scored two holes in one and was a charter member of the purple gang. Jim was an avid pilot and a member of the aircraft owner and pilots association logging thousands of hours.
Jim is survived by his loving children: Alexandra Palmer, John (Karen) Mantas and Pamela Mantas all of Niskayuna, his cherished grandchildren: Paul (Tiara) Antonovich, Megan (Brian) Whipple, James Mantas and John (Chelsea) Mantas and adored great grandchildren Harper and Tanner Whipple and Paul Antonovich.
Jim's funeral service will be celebrated on Friday December 16, 2016 at 10:30 am at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, 107 Clinton Street Ext., Schenectady.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday December 15, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. The Trisagion service will be held at 6:00 pm.
Interment alongside his beloved Ann and with full military honors will take place in Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers and due to cemetery regulations, memorial contributions can be made in Jim's memory to the St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, 107 Clinton St. Ext. Schenectady, NY 12305.
