Obituary of Jane B. Darby

JANE B. DARBY Cohoes-Jane B. Darby, age 100, passed away on November 6, 2016 at Eddy Village in Cohoes, NY surrounded by her loving family. Jane was born September 30, 1916 in Brooklyn, NY to Jane O. and Harry R. Beaty. The family moved to Bridgeport, CT where Jane finished her education. There she met Paul Franklin Darby while sailing on Long Island Sound and they married in 1943. They had four children. Paul and Jane resided in Fairfield CT, Beaver PA, Lake Geneva WI, Redlands CA and Sante Fe, NM. Jane spent her final years in Albany, NY. Jane was a devoted sister, wife and mother. She was challenged to raise teenagers during the 60's and we all turned out all right. Jane was an active bridge player with her husband and had wide ranging interests including the League of Women Voters and was quite the community activist. She quilted, sewed and knitted for her children and grandchildren. She took up tennis at the age of 44, winning tournaments and trophies and played the game into her 80's. Jane was preceded in death by her husband Paul and her brother John A. Beaty. Jane is survived by her four children, John Thomas (Lucinda), Susan Jane (Robert Anderson), Mary Elizabeth (Giuli Bratton), Mark Edward (Linda Cardona). She has 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. We are grateful for the life she gave us. A private interment will be held at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield, CT.
