Katie was a brilliant and brilliantly talented young woman who I loved as my own daughter. Her loss has been both unimaginable and devastating. As a child when I got to 'keep' her with my own girls our fun was unbounded by convention.
The fun we had! Those long lazy summers when she and Melanie would raid gramma's garden for green beans, peppers and "chives"...when the girls would build forts all over mom's house, or under clothes racks while Julie and I shopped. Madeline was usually the orchestrator of those exploits.
The girls kept Gramma Grace on her toes as they "thundered" around upstairs wrecking havoc. Mom said nobody could fit the crust in the pan for lemon bars like Katie could. When Caroline got to join our merry band of fun I have memories of us driving down the Northway singing at the top of our lungs, and then having a pajama party, playing with makeup and beauty treatments and of course, baking.
From such a young age Katie and Mel would disappear together sharing secrets and playing. Our families did memorable trips, and hikes together. Such fun. (the trips more than the hikes). Our Katie, my summer daughter, was a light in my life, in our lives, who be forever missed.

Katie was such a gem, and it was a privilege to work with her as she navigated her challenging voyage at Maryland Institute College of Art. Katie's triumphant, confident, bright, beaming face the day she graduated is burned into my memory! Katie's light and love continue to shine, even now. Please know that strength, love, and compassion surround her family. <3

Larry, Julie, Caroline:
As you once told us, this is such a senseless tragedy. We pray that God gives you the strength to get thru this ordeal and have only good memories of the way too short of time that you had together.
