MARGERY DARDANI
Loudonville- Margery "Marg" Comerford-Dardani entered into eternal life on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, in Loudonville, surrounded by her family.
She was born on January 19, 1920, to Margaret Doran and John Comerford, and was the fourth of the "Comerford Girls." She was the beloved mother of Marcy Zarcone (Michael) of Loudonville, loving grandmother of Margie Zarcone of New York City and Jeff Zarcone of Loudonville. Marg was predeceased by her husband, John Dardani; her sisters, Marion, Helen and Kathryn. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews; Donna and Janice Hartigan of Lake Forest, IL; Rana Doug Mitchell, Drew and Chase Stelzer of Chagrin Falls, OH.
Marg was a committed Scientist and Educator. She received her B.S. in Chemistry from St. Rose College, a dual Masters in Education and Chemistry from SUNY Albany and ABD from SUNY Albany in Chemistry. She taught all levels of high school Science and was head of the Science Department at Coxsackie-Athens Central School District. She became a Certified School Counselor and was the first female high school Guidance Counselor in the district. She was certified to be and offered the positions of high school Principal and Superintendent of schools, both of which she declined to spend time with her family. She worked for many summers at the NYS Education Department writing questions for and grading Chemistry Regents exams. She worked at the University of Pittsburgh in Research and had the opportunity to meet Jonas Salk and Albert Einstein. She was one of the first women to pass the NYS Chemistry Examination.
She was an enthusiastic boater and enjoyed spending time with her husband on their boat the "Truant" on the Hudson River and Lake Champlain. She was a skilled skier and tennis player. She spent many happy winter weekends at her family's home in Lake Placid and summers with her daughter and grandchildren at their home on Nantucket. She was beloved by her students and was the inspiration for many of them to pursue careers in Medicine and Science. Her loving demeanor touched all around her. She left a positive legacy for all who knew her.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to family friend Kevin Cavanaugh of the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home in Latham.
Marg's family would appreciate that in lieu of flowers, contributions in Margaret's memory be made to The Coxsackie American Legion Baseball Post #166, P.O. Box 101, Coxsackie, New York 12051.
