EUNICE BROWN
Latham- Eunice Thompson Brown was born in Philadelphia, PA on October 24, 1926. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Louis Thompson and Tismotha "Lee" Sutton Toland. She departed this life on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at home surrounded by her family.
Those left to cherish her loving memories are her children, Vernell Brown Fitzgerald (Lawrence) of Md, Claudia Brown of Schenectady, Stephanie Brown Toliver of Md, Tracy Brown Slocum (Gregory) of Albany; eight grandchildren, Tia Fitzgerald Bennett (Sean) of NJ, Kevin Fitzgerald (Edith) of Md, Sheree Fitzgerald of Brooklyn, Lyndsay and Aaron Toliver of Md, Jordan Meed of Albany, Ryan and Conor Slocum of Albany; eight great-grandchildren, Tiana, Ciera and Isaiah Fitzgerald of Md, Jaelyn and Nathan Bennett of NJ; Miles El-Amin of Md, Ziana and Viviana Dunzelmann of Albany; her brother Charles Toland of MO; her sisters, Elizabeth Burnett, Miamuna Mwamba of Schenectady, Cecile Walker of NJ, Anne Toland of MO; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, Eunice was predeceased by her siblings, Lois Jean Toland, Robert, James and Cecil Toland, William Thompson, Sandra Jean Toland, Zelda Frasier, Geraldine Tucker, Maude Branic, Louise Harden, Lillian Modest and Mary Alice Thompson
She was educated in Schenectady and graduated from Nott Terrace High School. She worked for the New York Telephone Company for many years until her retirement in 1988, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. As a young woman Eunice worked as an usher at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, NY. Prior to her illness she was a volunteer in the gift shop at Memorial Hospital in Albany, NY.
Eunice loved music, dancing, parties and reading. She had an infectious smile and a wonderful sense of humor. Many years ago she belonged to a tap dancing troop that performed at local nursing homes. More than anything in the world she loved spending time with her family.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Wrenzinski and the staff at Saint Peter's Hospital Oncology/Hematology Unit for their exceptional care, kindness and loving support shown to Eunice during her illness. Also a special thanks to the Albany County Community Hospice Team.
At the family's request the funeral service will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to Saint Peter's Hospital Foundation 319 South Manning Blvd., Suite 114 Albany, NY 12208 in care of the Saint Peter's Cancer Care Center.
