Omg I'm crying here like a baby. This man was so much to me. He guided me through my last years of highschool. He made sure I would pass when I truly messed up. He believed in me like no other teacher did. My guidance counselor told me to go in the army he said no way go to college. He helped me so much and I was just telling my wife about him. I am lost to find he's been gone for 8 years. Thank You Sir for being my guiding light.

I am so sorry for your loss. I just wanted you to know that Jim played a part in my family's life...about 20 years ago he came to our door campaigning and he gave us a rubber jar opener with his name on it. Each time we couldn't get a jar opened, one of us would say "get Jim Darbyshire" and we'd use his opener to get the job done! I can't tell you how many times over the years we've thought about him. He seemed like such a good man. I've since moved out of Albany county and now live in Northern Kentucky, but my mom, who lives in Loudonville, still "uses" Jim to open her jars! She was the one who sent me his obituary from the Times Union. Again, I'm so sorry to hear about his passing.

I want to write and express my condolences to Mr. D's family...what a wonderful man. I have many fond memories of him as my teacher at Saratoga High - Class of 1986. We had a long-standing joke about "Where's the beef?" from the commercial during the 80's and we called each other "beef." I just pulled out my senior yearbook and re-read what he wrote - "Staigar - going to miss you, where's the _____, good luck to you, Mr. D" and it made me smile. I have worked for the state since graduating high school - almost 22 years and just graduated with my bachelor's in business in 2005 and I'd like to thank Mr. D for making that possible...he made me enjoy my business classes in high school and prepared for college so late in life. I don't know what my future holds but my business degree will make it much better. Godspeed Mr. D - you'll be missed!

Diane, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father. Knowing you I can only imagine what a great man he was. My husband attended Saratoga High and remembered him. There are no words to lessen the grief at this time except to say he is at peace and I wish you and your family the comfort that remembering him brings you. I will keep you and your family in my prayers at this difficult time.

A teacher who made learning fun...to some it is really small, but everytime I look at the NY Stock Exchange page of the newspaper, I think of Mr. Darbyshire. As a former business student, I learned about the stock market in his BA/BCA class. Thanks Mr. D...for having a part in who I am today.

Long ago memories often burn the brightest..."Jimmy" reading stories to me and having "tea parties" at Grandma's house, Thanksgiving dinners at 10 Grove Ave., "whipping the horses" in the car with Uncle Bob, summer cook-outs on Homestead Drive. Besides being my cousin, Jim was a friend, mentor, and supporter to my mother, his favorite Aunt Emma Jane, my sister Nancy, and myself in good times and bad. Nothing in life is harder than saying good-bye to a loved one, but hopefully knowing that memories like these will always be with you make this parting a little easier to bear. Sue, Kris, Dianne, Brian, John and Shirley-I am with you in my heart and thoughts and prayers.
Sue, Kris, Dee, Brian, John and Shirley, although I am not with you in Latham, I am with you in my heart, thoughts, and prayers.

Jim was a wonderful neighbor. He encouraged me and my father, Robert Pemberton, through many difficult times. It might have been just a hello as he mowed the lawn or a wave as we passed by but I knew he knew, and cared, if something was going on. Even though he was a private person, his light came shining through. We will miss him very much.
