Latham - Carlo Malacalza, 95 of Latham, beloved husband of the late Virginia Oraboni, entered eternal life on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland.
He was born in Vaccarrezza Italy on September 24, 1913, he was the son of the late Angela and Joseph Repetti. He came to the United States at the age of 19 and resided in Brooklyn and the Bronx. In 1953 he moved to Thornwood, NY with his wife and children. Upon retiring he moved to the Capital District to be closer to his devoted daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.
Carlo was a partner in the London Parlor Frame furniture business in Brooklyn. He carried his trade into retirement, making many wood carvings. He was a gentle and caring man, not only to his family whom he loved dearly, but also to all the people he encountered throughout his life.
Carlo is survived by his loving children: Brother Carl Malacalza (LaSalle Institute Principal, Troy, NY), Karen (Peter) Ryan of Guilderland, Joseph (Karen) Malacalza of Erie Colorado, His cherished grandchildren: Michael (Jennifer) Ryan, Kristine (Mark) Ryan, Diana and Lia Malacalza. He was the brother of Rina Pianpiano of Queens and Theresa Puccia of Ridge, NY. He was predeceased by his brother Bernard and sister Flora.
A special thank you is offered by Carlo's family to the staff at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, especially the Fatima Unit for the love and care they provided. They have a special place in our hearts.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday April 25, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church 498 Watervliet - Shaker Rd. Latham with Rev. Geoffrey Burke officiating.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4-8 p.m. in the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home 149 Old Loudon Rd. Latham.
In lieu of flowers contributions in Carlo's memory would be appreciated to the activity department on the Fatima Unity of Our Lady of Mercy Life Center 2 Mercycare Lane Guilderland, NY 12084.
Interment will be next to his beloved wife Virginia in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
