Obituary of Dolores "Dee" Halstead (Allen) Davis

Niskayuna- Dolores "Dee" Halstead (Allen) Davis, of Albany, formerly of Niskayuna, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side at the Teresian House, after a long illness with Alzheimer's disease. Dee was born on August 31, 1928, in Syracuse, NY. She is predeceased by her husband, Alan M. Davis and is survived by her children, Cynthia M. Novotny (Charles), T. Christine Allen, Wm. F. Allen IV, Andrew J. Allen (Camille) and grandchildren, Christopher Novotny, Gloria Lamb (Perry Freeze), Stefanie Morton (Erik), Rachel and Phillip Allen. Also survived by her only and loving sister, Lorene H. Zabin and sister-in-law, Mildred Elfenbein; Dee also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. A graduate of The Vincentian Institute, class of 1946, Mildred Elley School and the Austin School of Beauty, she owned two successful salons on Allen Street, Albany and at the Ramada Inn, Guilderland. Dee loved life and truly enjoyed her time volunteering for the Literacy Volunteers of America, along with her creative talent in knitting. Dee will also be remembered for her love of her children, grandchildren, and loving friends and family. The family would like to express our deep gratitude for the care and assistance from Dee's many nurses and aides, and also Sister Maureen, Sister Joan, Cathy Hans, Dr. Earl Zimmerman, Beth Smith-Bovin and Dawn Scalisi. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday July 26 from 2-4 pm at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday July 27, 2015 at 10:00 AM, Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes (former Vincentian Institute), Ontario & Yates Street, Albany with Fr. James Walsh officiating.
