Please share a memory of Gertrude to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Latham- Gertrude "Truus" Pauline Evans, 90, formerly of Clifton Park and Naples, FL, passed away on March 28, 2015, at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes surrounded by her family. Truus was born in Indonesia to the late Josephus and Elise Rosier and lived there as a child until returning with her family to their native country, the Netherlands. After surviving the German occupation of Holland during World War II she met and married the great love of her life, Donald Evans, and came with him to the U.S. to start their new life. She was proud to become an American citizen in 1963 and was fiercely patriotic about her adopted homeland. After raising three children Truus worked for many years in banking, retiring in 1986 from Trustco Bank. She was a voracious reader, tackled the toughest crossword puzzles, enjoyed watching WWII documentaries and movies, looked forward to her lunches with "the girls", and lived for her Boston Red Sox games. She was unwavering in her Catholic faith, asked little of others and gave generously to all. Truus was pre-deceased by her husband Don in 2005 and her four siblings, Paula, Toni, Theo and Joop. She will be deeply missed by her children, Trudy (Robert) Cushing of Latham, Donald (Karen) Evans of Delmar, and Maggie Evans of East Berne, and is survived by four grandchildren Matthew Cushing, Phillip Cushing, Jessica Bozzelli, and Cailyn Thompson, and one great-grandson, Liam Bozzelli. In keeping with Truus's wishes funeral services will be private. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. The family is sincerely grateful to the staff of House 12 at Eddy Village Green for the care, concern, and compassion shown to Truus during the six years that she lived there. For those wishing to remember Truus in a special way, kindly consider making a donation in her memory to the Eddy Village Green Education Fund at Eddy Village Green, 421 Columbia St., Cohoes, NY 12047. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home in Latham.
