Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Albany- Margaret Maria Sommerville, beloved wife of the late Sidney Brown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 08, 2015 at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center in Albany. Born December 1, 1924 in Vienna, Austria, Margaret was the daughter of the late Dr. Julius and Margarethe (Srnka von Hohenlindegg) Wirl. Margaret led a full life as a child in Vienna and Innsbruck. As a young adult she chose a path away from her aspirations to become a stage actress to a new adventure in the US, Caribbean, and Europe as the wife of a member of the American Armed Forces. Her many friends, co-workers, and her loving family became her admiring audience. She had much wisdom, style and culture to share as well as her natural beauty. Margaret was artistically gifted and took pride in becoming a certified gemologist, representing fine jewelry sales in Manufacturer's Jeweler (later to become Glennpeter Jewelers), Flah's, Jordan Marsh and Macy's (20+years) Department Stores. She is survived by her beloved children; Sybille Cowan of Colonie and Peter (Barbara) Sommerville of Rensselaerville. She was a cherished grandmother to Juliet (Peter) Van Kampen, Peter (Helena) Cowan, Jamie (Eoin) O'Riordan, and Ashley (James) Niemie, as well as step-grandson, Sean D'Alesandro (Jackie). A great source of joy were her great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Teddy, and Gregory Van Kampen, Isabella and Julia Cowan, Deacon and Emmet O'Riordan and Travis and Tyler Niemie. In keeping with Margaret's wishes there will be no visitation. Memorial services and inurnment will take place at a date to be announced at Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. The family would like to thank the staff at Daughters of Sarah for their compassionate and loving care they gave Margaret. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave. Menands.
