Colonie- Hon. Philip S. Caponera Esq, 72 of Colonie, beloved husband of Kathleen McCullen Caponera, entered into eternal life on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at St. Peter's Hospital with his loving family at his side.
Born in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Victor and Ida Rose Tarantelli Caponera. He graduated from St. Mary's Academy; Niagara University; Albany Law School; Phil was admitted to the New York State Bar in1967. He was a Law Clerk to Steiner & Steiner; Associate with Steiner & Steiner; Colonie Town Deputy Attorney; Private law practice; Elected Seven (7) times as Colonie Town Justice; Corporate Counsel to Robert Marini Builder, Inc. His memberships included Albany County Bar; NYS Magistrate's Association; Albany County/Schenectady County Magistrate's Association; Teacher and CLE lecturer for OCA for judicial training courses of lay judges both at NYS Association of Town meetings held in New York City and bi-annual lectures at Albany Law school; Member of Judicial candidates review Committee (1990's); Advisory Board for "Honor Court,"; Member of the Committee on Professional Conduct Committee; Chairman of the Professional Conduct Committee.
Phil was an avid golfer and captain of his Niagara University golf team when at the University. He was an avid fisherman. Phil was a longtime fan of the Chicago Bears, New York Yankees, New York Rangers and Los Angeles Lakers. He was a communicant of Christ Our Light Church in Loudonville. Phil was a larger than life personality whose selfless and giving nature touched many lives throughout his professional and personal life. Those that have met Phil never forgot him and for those that never met him have surely heard of his stories. Phil will be missed by many but truly forgotten by none.
Survivors in addition to his wife are his loving children Tracey (Jamie Cucinelli) Caponera of Rochester,Jay (Sherie LeVan) Caponera of Albany, Christopher LaChappelle of Halfmoon and Kelli (Steve) Gargerof Clifton Park, The light of his life were his grandchildren, Kyle, Christopher, Kaitlyn and Matthew Garger, Maddie LaChappelle, Taylor and Anthony Cucinelli. He was the dear brother of Carol (Robert) Howard of Loudonville, Victor (Laura) Caponera of Loudonville, Ronnie (Susan) Caponera of Valatie, and Ann Marie (William) Ruggio of Oswego. He is also survived by many loved nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday November 6, 2014 at 10:00 am in St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville with Rev. Anthony Chiarmonte officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday November 5, 2014 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville
Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
