ROBERT J. MURPHY Latham- Robert J. Murphy, 77 of Latham passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Albany Memorial Hospital, in Albany. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Kenneth C. and Mary (Hickey) Murphy. Bob was a graduate of Providence College and went on to receive his Masters from the University of Rhode Island. It was on September 4, 1957 that he married the former Shirley A. Goudreau. Prior to his passing the two shared a blessed union of almost 52 years of love and devotion. Bob served during the Korean Conflict as a 1st Lt. in the Army. Bob was employed with the NYS Department of Family Assistance in several offices; The Division of Temporary Assistance, Commissioner's Office, Division of Income Maintenance and Division of Children & Family Services. Bob retired from there in 1999 after 27 years of conscientious service. Prior to that Bob enjoyed being an Adjunct Instructor in Economics and Political Science at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica as well as Executive Director for the Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC) in both Utica and Rhode Island. Bob was a member of the Albany Elks Lodge #49. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife include his loving children: Susan M. Zirpoli of Delmar, Robert J. Murphy of Latham and Kenneth C. Murphy of Clifton Park. 4 cherished grandchildren; Cheryl M. Zirpoli, David R. Zirpoli, Mark K. Murphy and Katielin Adams. As well as his sister: Estelle M. McLaughlin of Cranston, RI and brother: Kenneth C. Murphy of New Cumberland, PA. many nieces and nephews and his great grand-dog Brighton. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at St. Francis DeSales, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville, where Bob's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Noone. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Friday from 4-7 P.M. at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, Ltd., 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY. In lieu of Flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Colonie EMS Bob's family wishes to thank the staff of the Memorial Hospital ICU for their care and compassion.
