Obituary of Ruth M. Johnson

Newtonville- Ruth M. Johnson, of Newtonville passed away peacefully on Saturday October 4, 2014 at Eddy Village Green where she was currently a resident. Born in Troy, Ruth was the daughter of the late Edward Joseph and Ruth Mary (Scouler) Murphy. She had been predeceased by her beloved husband Loren E. Johnson. They were married in 1940 and spent 61 cherished years together until his passing in 2001. Ruth was an Executive Secretary for the North Colonie Central School for 18 years before retiring in 1980. She also spent four years as a Clerk employed by N.Y.S Department of Tax and Finance in Albany. Ruth was involved in several organizations including Colonie's Senior Service Center, Rosary Society at Our Lady of Assumption, and membership to R.S.V.P at S.U.N.Y. She volunteered much of her time at the St. Pius Church where she worked as a lunch aid and as a former driver. Her effort even helped to establish the St. Pius library. Survivors include her beloved children Loren E. (Patricia) Johnson, Keith E. (Patricia) Johnson and Kevin J. (Barbara) Johnson. She also leaves behind her 6 cherished grandchildren: Michael (Claudia Ruggiero), Eric (Katie), Genevieve (Robert Norton), Scott, Brian Johnson and Erica (Matthew) Sperling. As well as 2 adored great grandchildren Nicholas & Noah and her siblings; Marguerite Bauer and Billy Murphy. She is predeceased by her sisters: Grace Omelan & Jane Bendon and her brothers: George, Edward, James and John Murphy. Relative and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday October 7, 2014 from 4-7 pm at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday October 8 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Fr. James Daley officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the charity of one's choice. Interment will take place at the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
