SHIRLEY T. DRESSLER
Colonie- Shirley T. Dressler, 84 of Colonie, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the Community Hospice at Eddy Village Green in Cohoes.
Born and educated in Syracuse, she graduated from Eastwood High School, and attended Syracuse University. She was a graduate of the State University at Albany, receiving a B.S. degree. She taught business education for the Shenendehowa Central School District and also at the Equal Opportunity Center in Troy. She also worked for the Town of Colonie in the Parks and Recreation Department.
Shirley was a resident of Latham for over 50 years and a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. As a young mother she was active in the PTA, Cub Scouts and Little League. She spent many vacations with her family on Cape Cod and in later years enjoyed traveling abroad, particularly to Europe, Australia and New Zealand. At home her favorite activities were golfing, walking, reading and bridge.
She was married for 63 years to the late Robert F. Dressler who died in 2013. She is survived by her loving children: Robert (Diana) Dressler Jr. of Penfield, NY, Deborah (Salvatore) Macaione of Albany and William (Stephanie) Dressler of Roswell GA. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Rachel, Evan, Michael and Kyle, her brother Richard (Patty) Freytag of Lexington, SC and Joyce Green who was like a daughter to her.
To honor Shirley's wishes there will be no calling hours.
A private memorial service and interment will be held at Saratoga National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
The family wishes to thank the Community Hospice of Albany for their compassionate care with a special thanks to Terry, Connie and Tiffany for providing Shirley with security and comfort.
