Obituary of George C. Houghtaling

Troy- George C. Houghtaling, 84 of Troy, beloved husband of Jean (Henry) Houghtaling, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Sunday May 18, 2014 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Born April 12th 1930 in Albany, George was the son of the late George C. Sr. and Anna Elizabeth (Caldwell) Houghtaling. George married Jean on May 24, 1953 and the two shared a blessed union of love and devotion for 61 years prior to his passing. George was an Operations Manager employed with Marvin Millwork. He worked in Watervliet and Ellenville for 37 years until retiring in 1990. George was a Mason at the Masonic Temple Mt. Zion Lodge #311 in Brunswick. Survivors include his beloved wife Jean and his loving children Kathy (John) Phoenix of Spiegletown, Lori (Daniel) Schermerhorn of Latham and Paul Houghtaling of Alabama; 5 cherished grandchildren: Colin (Deanna) Phoenix and Courtney Phoenix, Alison (Sean) DeLamater, Caiden and Devan Schermerhorn; 2 great grandchildren: Ava and Hunter DeLamater. He is also survived by his brother Ronald (Late Sara) Houghtaling of Utica, his sister Jane (William) Colangelo of Peru, NY and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday May 27, 2014 from 12-1 pm at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham. Funeral services for George will be celebrated at 1:00 pm immediately following the visitation at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy.
