JAMES F. DANNER
Latham-James F. Danner, 74, of Latham, beloved husband of Mary E. Danner for 49 years, passed away at St. Peter's Hospital on April 16, 2014 after a brief illness.
Born in New York City, the son of the late Walter F. and Mary M. Nally Danner, Jim was raised in Whitesboro, New York and graduated from Whitesboro High School. He received a B.S. degree from the College of the Holy Cross in 1962, an M.A. degree from Syracuse University in 1969 and a management certificate from the University of Southern California in 1970. Jim worked for the New York State Department of Labor for 32 years in a variety of positions and locations, including Utica, New York City and Albany.
Jim was an author, developing publications related to commercial airship history (Graf Zeppelin & Hindenburg). He was very proud of the Zeppelin display that he created for a Utica shopping center. He established a business creating souvenirs and publications related to sports. He was active in the world of sports memorabilia and the Boxing Hall of Fame activities. He met many boxing celebrities and created a boxing "wall of fame" to share his experiences.
Jim and Mary loved to travel, and visited many great art museums. Another favorite activity was following Syracuse University football and basketball.
In addition to his devoted wife Mary, he is survived by his daughters, Mary Beth Danner Conboy (John), Karen Dvorak (Tomas) and Margaret Danner-Frank (Stephen) and his beloved grandchildren: Meghan E. and Caroline D. Conboy and Sammy F. and Sophie M. Dvorak, all of Latham. He leaves a brother, John V. Danner (Jeanette) of Edison, NJ and a cousin, Fred J. Nally of Watervliet and many nieces and nephews. Jim's great sense of humor and quick wit will be fondly remembered.
A mass to celebrate Jim's life will be held on Monday, April 21 at 10:00am at the Church of St. Ambrose, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jim's name to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, 965 Albany Shaker Rd, Latham, NY 12110, regionalfoodbank.net.
