MILDRED R. SCHEESSELE Menands- Mildred R. Scheessele, age 95 of Menands passed away peacefully on April 9, 2014 after a long and determined battle with Alzheimer 's disease. Born in Essexville, Michigan on October 29, 1918, Mildred was the daughter of the late John J. and Christina Grace (Johnson) Jacobs. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Dennis and her 8 siblings. After graduating St. John's Parochial School, Mildred earned her Associates Degree from Business College in Bay City, MI. For exercise, she enjoyed skiing and ice skating. Mildred met Dennis V. Scheessele while he was stationed at Selfridge Field (now Selfridge Air National Guard Base) in Michigan and they were married June 16, 1945 in Essexville, MI. After WWII when Dennis returned from Germany, they relocated to Evansville, IN. Mildred was a homemaker and enjoyed raising their four children through elementary school. Then she became a Kitchen Manager for St. Theresa School in Evansville. She was employed by the Catholic Diocese of Evansville, IN and managed food services for St. Theresa Elementary School for Twenty years before retirement in 1981. Mildred enjoyed knitting and crocheting and her favorite pastimes were jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed Twenty-Two years as a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Schenectady, NY. Survivors of Mildred include her Children, Dennis (Elaine) Scheessele of Indian Head, MD, John (Susan) Scheessele of Naples, FL, David (Susan) Scheessele of Yorktown, VA and Mary "Tina" (Stan) Segal of Menands, NY. Mildred leaves behind grandchildren, David (Dawn) Scheessele of Valparaiso, IN, Sarah (Pierce) Oswick of Golden, CO, Mark (Lauren) Goodwin of Gaithersburg, MD, Kristen Goodwin of Rockville, MD, Elizabeth Scheessele of Norfolk, VA, Brian (Robin) Scheessele of Newport News, VA, Cara Segal (Stacey Novack) of Northampton, MA, Daniel (Karen) Segal of Raleigh, NC and Bandon Segal of the Capital District. Survivors also include eleven great grandchildren. The family wishes to acknowledge with their sincere gratitude the compassionate and quality care afforded to Mildred for the last 4 years of her life by the nurses and staff at the Courtyard of the Eddy Geriatric Center. In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to Alzheimer's Association, Northeastern New York Chapter, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, New York 12205 in memory of Mildred R. Scheessele. Relatives and Friends are invited and may call on Friday April 11, 2014 from 10:30-11:30 am at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday April 11 at 12:00 noon at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville.
