WILLIAM J. SERAFIN Latham- William J. Serafin, 95 of Latham, beloved husband for 58 years of the late Estelle T. Muraski Serafin, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2013 in the comfort of his home with his loving family at his side. Born in Watervliet on August 30, 1918, he was the son of the late Joseph and Katherine (Wrzosek) Serafin. He was a graduate of Troy High School and proudly served as a U.S. Navy Seabee during World War II in the South Pacific where he received the WWII Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal and the Navy Good Conduct Medal. Bill was a welding foreman employed at Troy Boiler Works in Troy for many years, retiring in 1988. He truly enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the 90 Plus Ski Club where he skied up until the age of 92. Bill was also a bowler in the farmer's league for over 50 years and a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham. He is survived by his loving children: Jean (Late Raymond) M. Krolak of Colonie, Ronald (Linda) W. Serafin of Malta, his cherished grandchildren; Kim (Kevin) Angerstein, Laura (Cameron) Horan and Bryan Serafin, adored great grandchildren Jake and Sage, as well as his sister Genevieve Coghill of Latham. Bill was predeceased by his sister Rita Shufelt, and his brother Raymond Serafin who passed away last week. A special thank you to Susan & Tiffany from Community Hospice for the care and compassion they gave toward Bill. Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday October 16, 2013 from 4-7 pm at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday October 17 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham with Rev. Geoffrey Burke officiating. Contributions in memory of William Serafin can be made to Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet Shaker Rd., Latham NY 12110 Interment will take place next to his beloved wife in Memory Garden's, Colonie.
