Obituary of Jacob Oreshan Sr.

JACOB ORESHAN SR. Boght Corners- Jacob Oreshan, Sr., 92 of Boght Corners, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Born on May 13, 1921, he was the son of the late Alex and the Rose (Farinc) Oreshan. Jake lived a full life. Besides a family that loved him, Jacob has many friends, neighbors and acquaintances that enjoyed his kind personality and great smile. He never said no to anyone who needed a hand. At one time Jake worked at G.E. as a foreman and was a county agent for the Albany County Soil Conservation Dept. He was very involved in the community thru many, many years with the Boght Fire Company as Chief, the Rescue Squad as Captain, a councilmen, committee men and county legislature. He was very proud to have delivered 7 babies over his years with the ambulance squad. Jake was the owner of Oreshan's Dairy and a milkman for 38 years eventually retiring. He then worked for the Town of Colonie Police Dept. and Town of Colonie Golf Course. While doing all this over the years he still found time to be a gentleman farmer with 50 head of beef cows and as many acres of land to care for. Jake was an avid hunter and also enjoyed many years of bowling with his many friends on his Tuesday and Thursday leagues. Before Helen's passing they spent many mornings with their group of friends enjoying breakfast and socializing at the Latham Price Chopper. Jake was predeceased by his beautiful wife of 67 years, Helen, their eldest daughter Kathy Kehn, and his brother Alex. He is survived by his loving children: Jacob (Peni) Oreshan Jr. of Cohoes, John Oreshan of Latham and JoAnne (Paul) DeStefano of Clifton Park as well as his 12 cherished grandchildren, 8 adored great grandchildren, his sister Stella Gabriel of Cohoes, brother: Edward Oreshan of Boght Corners several nieces and nephews and so many friends that will truly miss him. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Monday July 1, 2013 from 3-7 p.m. at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. Funeral services for Jake will be celebrated on Tuesday July 2 at 10:00 am the funeral home with Fr. Terenti Wasielewski officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Boght Fire Company or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Interment will take place next to his beloved Helen in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Boght Corners.
