Obituary of Joseph P. Redling

Latham- Joseph P. Redling, 93 of Latham, beloved husband of the late Eleanor Szalay Redling, died Friday, August 29, 2008 at Our Lady of Hope Residence, in Latham. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Anton and Anna (Toth) Redling. He married his beloved Eleanor Szalay on May 5, 1940 and moved to Albany in 1940, relocated to Lansingburgh in 1942 and finally to Latham in 1952 where he and his wife lived on Gail Lane for over 50 years. He recieved a BBA in Business Administration from City College in NYC. Joe was the Director of Business Administration, employed by NYS Department of Labor in Albany until retiring in 1975 after 39 years of service. He served a Labor Dept. Representative on the CSEA Board of Directors for several years and was Past President of the Albany Chapter of the Division of Employment of CSEA. Mr. Redling was a Charter Member of Knights of Columbus #3394 in Latham where he served as Treasurer & Trustee. He was a former member of the Colonie Elks Lodge #2192. He enjoyed bowling and the game of golf where he was a longtime member of the Pinehaven Golf Club. Joe and his late wife were communicants of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham and he served as an Usher for many years. He resided at the Atria Crossgate Independent Living in Albany for over 5 years prior to moving to Our Lady of Hope. Survivors include his loving children Karen (Anthony "Babe) Pallotta of Amsterdam, Gerri Turcotte of Rochester, Cindy (Daniel) Mihalek of Gansevoort, his cherished grandchildren Jill Robert, Chris Waite, Pam Mulcahy, Scott Pallotta, Lorraine Walls, Stacie Mihalek, Jason Mihalek, Sara Mihalek his great grandchildren Brian, Anthony, Zachary, Devan, Matthew, Kayla, Nicole, Jenna, Ethan, Ellie and Ashley. Joe was predeceased by his Brother, Victor Redling A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Hope Chapel, 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane, Latham with Rev. Firmin Finn officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to call Tuesday from 9-10 am at Our Lady of Hope Residence. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Donations to the Little Sisters of the Poor 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane Latham, New York 12110 would be appreciated. Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home in Latham.
