GEORGE F. SWEENEY JR.
Latham- George F. Sweeney Jr., 76 of Latham, beloved husband of Constance "Connie" Sweeney, and affectionately known to his family and friends as "Geezer" passed away peacefully on Friday March 22, 2013 at Community Hospice Inn at St. Peters in Albany with his loving family by his side.
Born in Brooklyn on December 2, 1936, he was the son of the late George F. Sr. and Grace V. (Eckerline) Sweeney. He was a 1954 graduate of Most Holy Trinity School in NYC. George was married to the former Constance Smith on June 13, 1959 and the two shared a blessed union of 54 years prior to his passing.
George was employed as the Head Clerk for Purchasing with the NYS Health Dept. for almost 30 years before retiring in 1985. He taught CCD at St. Ambrose & Our Lady of the Assumption Church. He was also a member of the Colonie Elks #2192 and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors in addition to his beloved wife include his loving children: Connie (Donald) Van DeWater of Bethel, CT, George F. III (Cathy) Sweeney of Levittown, PA. and Michael (Mary) Sweeney of Latham as well as his 6 cherished grandchildren. He is predeceased by his grandson Thomas.
Relatives and Friends are invited and may call on Sunday March 24, 2013 from 2-5 pm at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday March 25 at 12:00 noon at Our Lady of The Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham. Fr. Geoffrey Burke will officiate
