WILLIAM H. CHILDS
Latham- William H. Childs of Latham, and beloved husband of the late Rita Empie Childs, passed away February 18, 2013 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.
Born on November 25th 1924 in Albany, he was the son of the late Neil D. and Anna (Hammer) Childs. Mr. Childs married his beloved Rita Empie on September 16th 1948. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II serving from 1942 to 1946.
Bill worked on the NY Central railroad from 1946 until 1953. He later worked as an electrician for the Watervliet Arsenal from 1953 until 1959. He then became a harness maker for Empie Manufacturing in Latham, until retiring in 1986.
Bill was involved in several clubs and organizations through out his life. He was a member of the Colonie Elks Lodge #2192 for 50 years where he was a life member and former member of their golf league. He was also a member of the American Legion post #1256 in Colonie. He enjoyed golf and bowling and spent time many years as cashier for the Town of Colonie Golf Course.
Survivors include his loving children William (Karen) Childs and Keith (Beverley) Childs all of Latham. two sisters Virginia Collins and Barbara (James) Coogan, his brother Joseph (Noreen) Childs. his cherished grandchildren Kimberly (Nick) Dean, Emerson (Amber) Childs, Jennifer (Jeffrey) Smith, Morgan (Richard) Wilson, William D.T. (Bethany) Childs, James Childs, and Sandra (Loren) Carpenter. His great-grandchildren Autumn and Summer Childs, Austin, Benjamin and Connor Smith, Aaron, Kaitlyn Dean, Mikayla and Hunter Wilson, Liam and Matthew Childs, Stephanie and Tiffany Carpenter, special nephew Kent (Buck) Cummings an many other loving nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held celebrated on Friday February 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham with Rev. Geoffrey Burke officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home 149 Old Loudon Rd. Latham on Thursday from 4-7 p.m.
Interment will take place at Memory's Garden in Colonie.
