SARA B. ARMSTRONG
Latham- Sara B. Armstrong, 75 of Latham, passed away on Tuesday, February 12 at St. Peter's Hospital after a four month fight against cancer.
Sara was born March 3, 1937 in Lancaster, Missouri to the late William F. and Sydney E. Bunch. Much of her childhood was spent in Keokuk, Iowa where she received top honors at Keokuk High School and played the violin in community orchestras. College study was done at the University of Iowa where she worked with Dr. Van Allen and at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy culminating in a Master of Science in Physics.
Sara worked for over nine years at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Schenectady. She contributed material for a chapter in the Naval Reactors Physics Handbook. She was cofounder and Vice President of Capital Technology Corporation. Some projects there involved the writing of software for operation of automated electron beam instruments, software for video game controllers and code for gathering and reporting election results.
A lifelong runner, she always loved working out and enjoyed being in nature. She loved planning and growing her flower garden and going to all the flower shows in New England. She enjoyed working and volunteering at the Pruyn House in Latham and the Town of Colonie Historical Society. She also enjoyed visiting her children and spending time with her family. She was a beautiful woman, so sweet to everyone and always the calm one in any situation.
Sara is survived by her husband, Albert L. Armstrong Jr.; her son, Mark A. Armstrong (Jennie) of Portland, OR and their son Charles; daughter Lynn E. Armstrong (Nicolae) of Tiburon, CA; and also brother William F. Bunch, Jr. (Ruth) of Woodbury, MN.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday February 18, 2013 from 11:00-1:00 p.m. at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham. Funeral Services will be celebrated on Monday at 1:00 pm at the funeral home immediately following the visitation.
Friends & family will be gathering for a reception at the Pruyn House, 207 Old Niskayuna Rd., Latham NY from 3-6 pm Monday
In memory of Sara, donations may be made to the Historical Society of the Town of Colonie (P.O. Box 1254 Latham , NY 12110) or to the Friends of Pruyn House ( www.pruynhouse.org or mail to the same address above).
Interment will take place in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands
