MARTIN JOSEPH KENNY
Latham-Martin J. Kenny, Sr. 88, of Latham, died unexpectedly at home on November 21, 2012.
Born in Green Island, he was the son of Martin F. and Elizabeth McGowan Kenny. Raised in Troy, he graduated from Catholic Central High School, Class of 1941. Marty served in the U.S. Army Infantry in the European Theater during WWII. He was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. Marty graduated from Siena College in 1948 with an Accounting degree. He worked for the NYS Department of Civil Service for 38 years retiring in 1986.
Marty is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Teresa Johnson Kenny; five children: Patricia (William) Jakabek, Mary Lou (Dennis) O'Connor, Martin Jr. (Kathrin) Kenny, Susanne (Robert) Burke and Michael (Paula) Kenny, thirteen grandchildren: Eileen, Patrick, Colleen, Brendan, Michael, Timothy, Matthew, Joseph, Molly, Erin, Colin, Robert and Abby Rose, and 2 great-grandchildren William and Kieran. Also survived by two sisters, Frances Willson and Cecelia O'Connor; Marty was predeceased by his sisters Elizabeth and Margaret Kenny and Regina Hilton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday November 26, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church 498 Watervliet -Shaker Rd. Latham with Rev. Geoffrey Burke officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home 149 Old Loudon Road Latham, on Sunday November 25, 2012 from 2-5 p.m.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Troy.
