Obituary of Alva June Lefever-Gordon

ALVA JUNE LEFEVER-GORDON
Latham- Alva June (Lefever ) Gordon, beloved mother and grandmother ,passed away peacefully on September 14, 2012 at the age of 87. She was born in Versailles, Missouri in 1925 and attended Versailles High School and business school in Warrensburg.
In 1949, at the age of 24, she left her parent's farm in Versailles Missouri and traveled by bus, train and ship to Japan to become an Army Secretary. She met a handsome GI, Eugene A. Gordon, of Whitehall, NY, to whom she was married for over 40 years. They shared a love for their children whom they raised in Whitehall and Latham NY, and for their grandchildren.
Mrs. Gordon worked for the State of NY until the age of 72 and helped send her daughters to college and graduate school.
She is survived by her three daughters Londa Knapp and her husband Peter of Latham, New York, Gail Gordon Donegan and her husband Brian of Alexandria Virginia, and Cathy Gordon Bartell and her husband Thomas of West Simsbury, CT. She cherished her four beloved grandchildren Whitney Bartell, Dmitri Knapp, Kendall Gordon and Eva Bartell whom she cared for in all their infancies and youth. June is also survived by Eugene Gordon of Hunter, NY.
She is predeceased by her son Alan Gordon and by her 7 siblings Juniata, Fern, Valley, Gerry, Julia, Alva Joseph and David with whom she remained close all the days of their lives.
Friends are invited to hear her family share stories of her life at a memorial service from 2:30-3:30 pm at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, Latham on Sunday the 16th of September 2012. Following the services the family invites everyone the family's home for a luncheon.
June's family is grateful to the staff at Marjorie Doyle Rockwell Center for Alzheimers, for their care & compassion over the past 4 years.
