Obituary of Patricio "Pat" Figueroa Jr.

PATRICIO "PAT" FIGUEROA JR. BOGHT CORNERS - Patricio "Pat" Figueroa Jr., 63 of Boght Corners, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Albany Medical Center after a recent illness. Born in Catano, Puerto Rico on April 20, 1948, he was the son of the late Patricio and Josefina (Velez) Figueroa Sr. Pat was married to the former Denise Bader and the two shared a blessed union of 36 years prior to his passing. Pat was employed with the NYS Office of the Aging in Albany as an administrator. His dedicated service to New York State extended 19 years, he eventually retired in 2003. He also founded the first independent living center in NYS in 1978, CIDNY, co-founded the 504 Democratic Club, as is the publisher of the national disability newspaper, Independence Today. Pat was also a talented artist, author, disability activist, and advocate for people with disabilities, web designer, inventor, entrepreneur, husband and father. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife Denise, include his cherished daughter: Melissa Figueroa of Boght Corners and his loving siblings: Josefina Roqu (nee Figueroa), Carmen Figueroa, Milagros Figueroa, Fernando (Teresa) Figueroa, Julio (Violie) Figueroa, Jesus (Bexaida) Figueroa, Antonio (Victoria) Figueroa, Ramon Figueroa, Juan Figueroa and many nieces & nephews as well as his mother in law Joan Bader. Relatives and friends are invited to call Monday April 9, 2012 from 3-7 p.m. at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. Pat's Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday April 10 at 10:00 am at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Independent Living Center of the Hudson Valley, 15-17 3rd St., Troy, NY 12180 Interment will take place in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands.
