Obituary of Irene Poderis

IRENE PODERIS Schenectady - Irene Poderis, 78, of Schenectady NY and Vero Beach FL died suddenly on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 with her devoted husband and three loving daughters by her side, at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach. Born May 18, 1933 in Schenectady to Helen and Louis Horvath, Irene was a graduate of Draper High School in Rotterdam. Upon graduation she worked at GE where she met her future husband, Anthony, who she married on September 9, 1956. She dedicated her life to raising her children and later returned to work at the Mohonasen Central School District, where she was employed for 20 years, before retiring in 1992. Additionally, she devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members. Irene's interests always centered on family and friends, and she was especially proud of her ten grandchildren, all of who learned the meaning of being part of a loving family by being by her side. She was known as "GoGo" to her grandchildren because of her boundless energy, and "LouLou" to her childhood friends. Her winters in Florida allowed Irene to add new friends while relaxing by the pool and ocean. Making friends was easy for Irene because of her kindness, thoughtfulness and easy smile. Irene is survived by her husband of 55 years, Anthony (Al) Poderis, daughters Susan (Howard) Masto of Guilderland, NY; Carolyn (Robert J) Champouillon of Hillsborough, NJ; and Sharon (Michael) Caruso of Latham, NY. She is also survived and will always be missed by her grandchildren: Gregory, Stephen and Matthew Masto, Robert A, Lauren and Ryan Champouillon, and Jonathan, Andrue, Ali and Jared Caruso; several nieces and nephews and her two close sisters-in-law, Veronica and Ann Poderis, of Rotterdam. Besides her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her brother, Les Horvath. The family will receive relatives and friends during a memorial service from 10:00 am - 12:00 (noon) on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the De Marco-Stone Funeral Home, 5216 Western Turnpike, Guilderland NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Irene's name may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in care of the funeral home.
