JOHN J. SOBISKI Latham- John J. Sobiski, 86 of Latham, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Community Hospice at St. Mary's Hospital, in Troy. Born in Centralia, PA, on March 10, 1925, he was the son of the late John and Margaret Sobiski. John proudly served in the Pacific as a Radioman during World War II in the US Navy. He was joined in marriage with the former Antoinette "Toni" Cassala and the two shared a blessed union for 42 years prior to her passing in 1995. John was employed with the Watervliet Arsenal as a plumber, retiring in 1982 after 34 years of service. John had many interests including Horse Racing, but his one true love was his devotion to his beloved wife and family which meant the world to him. He was a communicant of St. Ambrose Church in Latham. He is survived by his loving sister: Catherine Kilcullen of Watervliet, his sister in law: Rose Colavecchio and brother in law: John Cassala both of Florida and many beloved nieces & nephews. John is predeceased by his siblings: Helen Sobiski, Anne Sobiski, Julia Zinda, Mary Kotarski, Edward J. Sobiski and Staff Sgt. Joseph Sobiski. The family would like to thank the staff & nurses at the Albany County Nursing Home, St. Mary's Hospital and Community Hospice as well as Dr. Juan Villarama for their care & compassion toward John. Relatives and friends are invited to call Saturday January 14, 2012 from 9:00-10:30 am at Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday January 14 at 11:00 am at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital, 125 Wolf Road; Suite 225, Albany, NY 12205 or to Community Hospice, 295 Valley View Blvd. Rensselaer, NY 12144.
