VELTA BAUMANIS
Troy-Velta Baumanis passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, December 8 at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center, in Albany.
She was born Velta Mezulis on Latvia on April 23, 1920. Early in life she pursued a nursing career and worked at hospitals in her home country. When World War II began, she left Latvia and eventually settled in Australia, where she met her husband, Arvids Baumanis. They married in 1950 and began raising a family in Australia. They all eventually moved to the United States in 1962. Since coming to the states, she lived throughout New York, including the Bronx, Wappingers Falls, Albany, Watervliet & Troy. Later in life, she worked at the Brady House in Albany, part of the St. Catherine's Center for Children. There she energetically and enthusiastically helped many needy youngsters develop important life skills.
Velta loved staying current and considered herself a real news junkie. She also never lost touch with her Latvian heritage. She will be remembered as a tough, strong willed woman who would do anything for her family. She was a model of survival & perseverance against tough circumstances, and worked hard to spread good values among those she loved.
Survivors include her children: Susan Carlson and her husband Craig; Dace Tricchinelli and her husband Mark and their sons: Robert & Peter and Baiba Spangler and her husband Mark and their son Jason & daughter Kate.
She was predeceased by her husband: Arvids, daughter: Mara & her beloved dog Brutus.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Memory Enhancement Unit at Daughters of Sarah for their wonderful care & compassion
