Amedio, Julie
Latham- Julie Amedio, the most-wonderful, loving daughter, sister, cousin, niece and a ray of sunshine in the life of anyone who knew her, moved on to the kingdom of heaven on Monday night, Nov. 17, at the age of 25.
She is the beloved daughter of Steve and Karen Amedio of Latham, and the older sister of Matthew, a freshman at the Eastman School of Music.
Julie, a resident of Latham, was a 2001 graduate of Shaker High school and received an associate's degree in liberal arts from Maria College of Albany in 2004.
She worked for the New York State Office of General Services since March, 2005 as a secretary and loved going to work every day. There, she displayed the strong work ethic that typified her life. She thrived in that environment, and her co-workers guided and looked out for her. She loved them in return, and they became some of her closest friends.
Julie overcame a number of hurdles in her life, but achieved much. As a fifth-grader, she was a North Colonie School District representative to the Capital Region Spelling Bee, finishing 37th out of 104 competitors.
She loved Siena basketball and attended every home men's and women's game. She also rooted strongly for the New York Yankees, closely followed figure skating competitions and the Olympics, and enjoyed watching the "American Idol" shows.
She possessed a remarkable love of life, and instilled that emotion in everyone she met, seeing only the positive side of everyone.
Her greatest love was for her family. She loved to spend time at concerts with her mom, attending concerts at which her younger brother performed (she was his greatest fan), and attending sporting events or traveling to Maine with her dad. Mostly, though, she just enjoyed being around those she loved.
Julie was a kind, pure individual, and all those whose lives she touched are the better for it. Her legacy is that she provided an example about how to live and enjoy the precious gift of life.
In addition to her parents and brother, she is survived by her loving great uncle John B. Legnard of Cohoes, and loving aunts and uncles Debbie and Larry DeGurahian of Latham, Mary Beth and Kevin Durocher of Waterford and Paul Durocher of Fresno, Calif. Her cousins and best friends were Amy DerGurahian of Key West, Fla., Sarah Durocher of Waterford and Jeffrey DerGurahian of Los Angeles, Calif. Julie was also the beloved granddaughter of the late Eileen and Jack Durocher of Cohoes and the late Carmen and Aline Amedio, also of Cohoes, great-niece of the late Matthew Legnard of Cohoes and niece of the late John Durocher of Cohoes. She was also close to many other family members and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday November 21 at 11:00 am at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Rd., Latham. where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Francis DuBois.
