THOMAS J. MURPHY Latham- Thomas J. Murphy, 83 of Latham, beloved husband of the late Marilyn R. Campbell Murphy, entered into eternal life on Monday, January 17, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a 2 year courageous battle with leukemia. Born in Troy, he was son of the late Frank T. and Esther L. (Maxwell) Murphy. Tom graduated from Catholic Central High School Class of 1945 and received his B.S. degree in accounting from Siena College in Loudonville. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during both World War II and Korea aboard the USS Beatty DD 756. He was employed as an Accountant at the Watervliet Arsenal for over 35 years until retiring in 1985. After his retirement Tom went to work part time at Coulson's News Stand in Newton Plaza for over 10 years. He was a family man with a great love for his children and grandchildren. He was an avid New York Yankees fan. Survivors include his loving children Colleen A. (John) Lennon of Latham, Frank T. Murphy of Clifton Park, Maureen M. (John) Spence of Clifton Park, Thomas J. (Alexandra) Murphy Jr. of Buffalo and Kathleen S. (Richard) Ahl of Ballston Lake, his cherished grandchildren Kristen Lennon, Robert Alexson, Matthew Cooper, Erin Spence, Bryan Spence, Thomas Ahl and Allison Ahl, his great grandson Ashton Alexson, his sister Claire Leathem of Troy, and two brothers Howard (Annlee) Murphy of Albany, and George (Lucy) Murphy of Latham, he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Francis Murphy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday January 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of The Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham with Rev. Geoffrey Burke officiating. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 4-7 pm at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road Latham. Interment will be next to his beloved wife Marilyn in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Contributions to Our Lady of the Assumption Church 498 Watervliet-Shaker Rd.
