Obituary of William Liburdi

WILLIAM LIBURDI

LATHAM – William "Bill" Liburdi, 59 of Latham, beloved husband of Haydee (Baquerizo) Liburdi and devoted father of Billy and Isabella Liburdi, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, with his family at his side after a battle with leukemia.

A lifelong Latham resident, Bill was born April 26, 1965, to Amelia (Cortesi) Liburdi and the late Italo Liburdi. After graduating from Shaker High School, he built his career in the heavy equipment industry but he later found his calling in returning to the North Colonie School District as a bus driver, where his friendly and professional attitude made him a favorite among students, parents, and staff alike. Seeing "Mr. Liburdi" behind the wheel was always worth a wave as his bus went down the street.

Since he was young, Bill loved the outdoors, whether he was fishing, hunting, or camping. Riding ATVs with his son was a highlight of his weekends. He enjoyed taking his family camping every summer, traveling to Lake George, Old Forge, or the Jersey Shore. His favorite vacation place was Hammonasset Beach, Connecticut, where he would take long bike rides across the beach with his wife, son, and daughter.

Bill devoted his life to his family. He cared deeply for them, doing the most he could to make them happy, from making his daughter's favorite breakfast each morning to using his extensive handyman knowledge to repair whatever his wife needed fixed. His nephews and nieces in Ecuador delighted him, and he spent all possible time with them when they visited. With his very big and generous heart, Bill was the first to jump in and help with whatever was needed. That generosity extended to everyone he met, as well. Whenever someone mentioned car trouble or needed work done around the house, Bill was the first to lend his hand to the lasting appreciation of his many friends and neighbors.

Bill was a bright spot of light to be around even when times were difficult. He tried to always keep a positive perspective and a smile on his face. His happy and funny personality made those around him smile, too.

In addition to his beloved wife and children, Bill is survived by his mother Amelia, brothers Italo, Dennis (Linda), and Mike, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews who love him.

Bill's family extends their deepest gratitude to the medical teams at Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute for their compassion and care in the last month and they invite all to remember him with a memorial donation to Dana Farber. Donations may be made by visiting www.dana-farber.org.
