JEANNE L. CARY

COXSACKIE - Jeanne L. Cary, 99, passed away peacefully at St. Peter's Hospital on Saturday, December 21, 2024.

Jeanne will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and helpful nature to anyone who needed it. She was very active in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Coxsackie including serving as a Lector and a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of the Rosary Society and the Columbiettes for many years. She enjoyed helping with the rummage sales at the United Methodist Church in Coxsackie. It was there that they gave her the title of "Cathodist". Jeanne also enjoyed volunteering at the Episcopal Church in Coxsackie and in the cafeteria at the old Catskill Hospital.

Born in Auburn, Maine and growing up in Webster, Massachusetts, Jeanne graduated from Bartlett High School in 1943 and met and married her husband, Kenneth Cary. The two were married 44 years prior to his passing. After moving to Coxsackie in 1945, she began working at GE in Coxsackie. After that, she worked for the Marriott Corporation for the next 30 years. She started out as a waitress at the Hot Shoppes on the N.Y . Thruway for 20 years and finished her last 10 years as hostess/manager at the Vince Lombardi Service Area on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Anyone who knew Jeanne knew she loved to cook, bake breads, and make soups. She loved to travel, whether it was trips with the senior citizens or European trips. She was an avid reader and loved being involved in the community. She delivered Meals on Wheels and was an election poll worker in Coxsackie for 35 years. She also helped with the building of the playground behind the Coxsackie Police Station. At one time, Jeanne won an honorable mention for Senior Citizen of the Year in Greene County. She was an active member of the Republican Club in Coxsackie. She was well liked and well known. She knew everyone in Coxsackie and was nicknamed "The Mayor".

Jeanne was predeceased by her mother and father, Hormidas and Delia (Chabot) Lamothe, husband, Kenneth Cary, grandson, James Vosburgh, and great-grandson, Craig Vosburgh, her brothers Norman and Edward Lamothe, and her sister, Constance Jeffrey.

She is survived by her daughters, Jeanne A. Cary, Eileen Feldt, Suellen Meier (Dan), her sister Natalie Blouin, granddaughter, Kelly Cary, grandson, Glenn Vosburgh, as well as 2 great grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her extended family, Shannon, Don, and Danica Fornicola, Dana and Sean Workman, Alex and Graidyn Miller, Devin, Megan and Rylee Rose Meier and Jeffrey Meier.

The family would like to thank all the nurses, doctors, and caregivers in St. Peter's Hospital Emergency Department and ICU.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, December 27th, at St. Mary's Church, 80 Mansion Street, Coxsackie, from 3-6 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, December 28, at St. Mary's Church beginning at 10:00 am with Reverend Joseph O'Brien, celebrant, followed by internment in Chestnut Lawn Cemetery, New Baltimore.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the care of Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, Latham, and Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena.
