BARBARA ANN VEINO


LATHAM - Barbara Ann (Burns) Veino, of Latham, beloved wife of the late Arthur R. Veino, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024 at Our Lady of Mercy Center, in Guilderland surrounded by her loving family.


Born in Albany on May 28th, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Beatrice C. (Colvin) Burns. Barbara was raised in Ravena and attended St. Patrick's Elementary School and Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School. She would later move to Watervliet with her husband, Arthur, and eventually plant their roots in Latham where they would go on to raise their family.


Among other small odd jobs throughout her life, Barbara was a dedicated homemaker, devotedly caring for her family. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Ambrose Catholic Church as well as a member of the Young at Heart Club at St. Ambrose. Barbara was a member of the Colonie Senior Citizens as well as the Colonie Elks. She enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family especially at the family camp on Saranac Lake. Barbara's greatest joy in life was being Mom to her children and Grandmother to cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed yet eternally cherished by those she loved.


In addition to her late parents and husband, Barbara is predeceased by her siblings: Charles "Sonny" Burns (late Josephine), William "Bill" Burns (late Arlene), and Helen Burns.


She is survived by her five cherished children: Barbara (Fred) Roosevelt, Carolyn (late William) Costigan, Diane (Timothy) Golden, Arthur (Mary Jean) Veino, James (Robin Golden) Veino; her ten adored grandchildren: Frederic Roosevelt, Eric Roosevelt, Michael Costigan, Sarah (Mark) Herzog, Matthew (Dr. Melissa) Veino, Melissa (Steve) Yeager, Dr. Jacqueline (Dr. Frank) Cortazar, Rebecca Golden, Michele (Ryan Hourigan) Golden, and Chandra Veino; as well as thirteen great-grandchildren: Payton Rahm, Maddie Veino, Zoe Veino, Piper Veino, Skylar Cortazar, Caroline Cortazar, Jaxon Yeager, Jacob Yeager, Cora Hourigan, Emma Costigan, Eli Costigan, Sophia Herzog, and Max Herzog. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.


Barbara's family would like to thank the staff at Our Lady of Mercy Center in Guilderland for the compassionate care they provided during Barbara's last months.


Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10:30 am at St. Ambrose Church, 347 Old Loudon Road, Latham with Reverend Kyle Gorenski, celebrant. Interment to follow the mass at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
