Obituary of Robert Charles Poirier

ROBERT C. POIRIER

COHOES - Robert Charles Poirier, 83 of Cohoes, beloved husband of Marcelline (Smith), passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Samaritan Hospital, in Troy.

Born in Racine, WI, and raised in Kenosha, WI, Bob was the son of the late Anthony P. and Valerie (Luxem) Poirier. Bob and Marci were married in 1972 in Summit, NJ spending fifty-two cherished years together.

Bob graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in Wisconsin and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin. During this time Bob also proudly served as a first responder with the fire department in Kenosha. He would eventually take a safety engineering job with Kemper Insurance Company based out of New Jersey and relocate to the northeast. It is here where he met his beloved Marci. Bob worked for Argonaut Insurance Co. beginning in 1970 based out of Cranford, NJ then moved on to Alexander & Alexander in NYC where he worked as a risk manager. It is while employed here that Bob received a Certificate in Ergonomics from NYU. In 1993 Bob and his family relocated to Nashville, TN for work and resided there up until 2008 when they moved to the Capital Region, settling in Cohoes.

Bob loved to travel. If he wasn't traveling for work, he was traveling for pleasure. He was proud of the fact that he was able to visit every state in the country except for North Dakota. He, along with his family, looked forward to their yearly vacations. Bob loved and trusted everyone. He knew no strangers. This made him the best employee for his daughter's and son-in-law's art supply store. He looked forward to working there every day, and visiting with the customers. He always had a hobby to look forward to whether it was riding his motorcycle, boating, or flying small airplanes. He also enjoyed playing his guitar, listening to audiobooks, building model airplanes and boats, and adding to his movie collection. Of all the things Bob enjoyed, however, his most valued treasure was the love he had for his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He will be sorely missed but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who love him.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife Marci Poirier, his daughter Robyn Diaz, son-in-law Jorge Diaz, and his grandson Felix Diaz, as well as his children, Gregory Poirier, and Monica Spreer.
