WALTER L. UERZ

LOUDONVILLE - Walter Leo Uerz, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, entered into eternal life on June 19, 2024.

Walt was born in Utica, NY, on November 24, 1931, only son of his loving parents, the late Mildred (Bossely) and Leo Uerz. A graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, he was employed part-time at the NY Telephone Co. while attending Utica College. After receiving his bachelor's degree from Syracuse University, Walt married his beloved Mary Gillissie in 1954. He served during the last years of the Korean War as a staff sergeant with the Army Signal Corps in Augusta, GA. After his military service, he returned to the NY Telephone Co., where he worked in management for various affiliated telecommunications companies for the next 42 years.

Walt was a dedicated parishioner of St. Pius X Church in Loudonville for over 50 years and served as an usher and volunteer during that time. After his family and his faith, Walt's great love was fishing, particularly in the beautiful lakes of the Adirondacks with his sons. After his retirement, Walt and Mary split time between their homes in Loudonville and in Chestertown as well as cherished vacations with their children and grandchildren.

In addition to his late parents, Walt is predeceased by two sisters. He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Mary (Gillissie); six children: Robert (Lori) of South Kingstown, RI; Jeffrey (Maureen) of Mechanicsville, VA; David (Kathleen) of Ontario, NY; Laurie (Michael Baschwitz) of Croton-on-Hudson NY; Suzanne (John Bell) of Bloomfield, NY; and Julie (Timothy Marion) of Wynantskill, NY; 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family and offer condolences on Monday, June 24th, from 9:00 to 10:15 AM in the chapel at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville. Funeral Mass will follow the visitation beginning at 10:30 AM in the main church of St. Pius X. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Walt's memory may be made to St. Pius X Church, Loudonville, NY.
