MARGARET ANNE WALES
ALBANY - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Anne (Sorell) Wales, age 72, who peacefully left us on June 3, 2024, at Albany Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on June 5, 1951, at Albany Medical Center, Margaret "Peggy" spent her early years in her beloved hometown of Albany, New York. She graduated with the Class of 1969 from Mercy High School, where she formed many lifelong friendships and began her journey of touching the lives of everyone she met.
Margaret is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, William Joseph Wales; her two loving children, Kathryn Margaret Maggiacomo (Carl Joseph Jr.) and William John Wales (Danielle Patricia); and her cherished grandchildren, Teddy and Cody Wales, and Ashley, Alex, and Carolyn Maggiacomo. Margaret's greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was raising her wonderful children and watching her grandchildren grow into smart, capable, and loving individuals. Her family was her top priority, and she had a unique gift for making everyone feel special around her.
She is also survived by her loving sibling Bernard William Sorell, and predeceased by her parents Kathryn May (Payne) Sorell and Bernard William Sorell.
Known for her kindness, sweetness, thoughtfulness, and strength, Margaret had a remarkable memory for details and always put others first. Her generosity was evident in the thoughtful presents she gave during holidays, ensuring no one ever felt left out. Margaret's resilience and fighting spirit helped her overcome many adversities throughout her life.
Margaret enjoyed traveling and created many treasured memories on cruises and day trips with her family. She loved dining out for brunch and had an insatiable thirst for learning and self-improvement. She never missed a Wordle puzzle, a daily diary entry, or a chance to play Words with Friends. Her love for music, especially country and oldies, was a constant source of joy.
Margaret Anne Wales will be remembered for her boundless love, her unwavering kindness, and her remarkable strength. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever be in the hearts of those she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Margaret's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause she deeply cared about.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday, June 7th, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd. Latham. Funeral mass to be held on Saturday, June 8th, 2024, 9:00 AM, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 347 Old Loudon Rd., Latham with Reverend Brian Kelly, celebrant.
