Obituary of Dr. William Russell Mangun

WILLIAM RUSSELL MANGUN

LATHAM - Dr. William R. Mangun, 77, of Latham, NY died April 29, 2024, at home, after a long illness. He was born August 10, 1946 in Alliance, OH. He was the only child of the late Clifford and Betty (DeLong) Mangun.

Dr. Mangun was awarded bachelor's degrees from both Akron and Syracuse Universities. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Airforce Security Service from 1968-1972. He earned his master's from Oklahoma State University and his doctorate from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN.

Dr. Mangun served as Director of the Master of Public Administration Program in the Department of Political Science at East Carolina University where he was a member of the faculty from 1988-2011. Upon retirement, the Board of Trustees named him Professor Emeritus. Prior to ECU he served as Project Manager for Policy Analysis and National Surveys and National Resource Management Coordinator for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Washington, D.C. Professor Mangun is the author of The Public Administration of Environmental Policy (1977), co-author of Managing the Environmental Crisis: Incorporating Values in Natural Resource Administration (1989), and editor of American Fish and Wildlife Policy: The Human Dimension (1992). He was a passionate wildlife advocate and photographer.

Dr. Mangun is survived by his wife Jean (Behrens), Professor at Siena College, daughter Kimberly Mangun Barletta, son Shaun Mangun, grandchildren Sophia and Salvatore Barletta and Jason Mangun along with stepchildren Emily and Christopher Tepper, and numerous cousins.

Relatives, friends and colleagues are cordially invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, May 2, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham.
