GEORGE E. DOODIAN


LATHAM - George E. Doodian, 85 of Latham and Ormond Beach, FL, beloved husband of over 40 years of the late Kathleen M (McHugh), passed away Monday, March 25, 2024, at Halifax Health Hospice in Ormond Beach, FL, surrounded by his loving family.


Born in Troy, NY, he was the son of the late Habib and Elizabeth (Demerjian) Doodian. George attended and graduated from Troy High and Siena College where he also completed Army ROTC training. He went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1967. George and Kathleen were married on September 19, 1964.


George spent over 35 years in public service with the State of New York. He dedicated the great majority of his career to the NYS Teachers' Retirement System, where he worked as a pension fund Investment Officer.


He enjoyed golfing, cooking, and traveling, as well as spending time with his dear friends, both in New York and in Florida. Above all else, George's deepest source of joy was his family. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.


In addition to his late parents and wife, George was predeceased by his siblings, Louis (late Rita) Doodian and Josephine (late Christopher) Long. He was also predeceased by his nephew, Paul Doodian.


George is survived by his loving family, including his daughters, Suzanne (Brian) Cook of Latham and Sharon (Kevin) Schanz of Clifton Park, and his son, Edward Doodian of Delmar. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren William Cook, Michael Schanz, and Edith Schanz. He never missed an opportunity to brag about them and support their interests. He is also survived by his nieces, Michele Doodian and Jacquelyn Brayden, and the dear companion of his later years, Dorothy Gleason of Ormond Beach, Florida.


Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham.


Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 498 Watervliet Shaker Rd., Latham, with Reverend Geoffrey Burke, celebrant.


Interment with military honors and Rite of Committal to immediately follow the mass at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
