WAYNE W. JONES
BALLSTON LAKE - Wayne W. Jones, 69 of Ballston Lake, beloved husband of the late Cheryl A. (Shields) Jones, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at St. Peter's Hospice Inn, in Albany with his family at his side after a hard-fought, twelve-year battle with cancer.
Born in Scranton, PA, he was the son of the late John and Marion (Flinn) Jones. He was a graduate of Shenendehowa High School, class of 1971. Wayne was a loving husband to Cheryl for forty-one years prior to her passing in 2016.
During Wayne's lifetime he worked for Al-Tec Specialty Steel, Canteen Vending, General Electric, and was proprietor of CWJ Quality Cleaning Services. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing softball and bowling as well as traveling with his wife, Cheryl, and attending baseball games of the various teams his son coached. He enjoyed volunteering at his "little buddy's" Lanthier's Grove and was a member of the Iron Workers Local Union 12 and American Legion Post 1450. He will be eternally missed, yet forever cherished by all whose lives he touched.
In addition to his parents and late wife, Wayne is predeceased by his brothers Thomas, Matthew, David and twin brother William.
He leaves behind his son and best friend, Wayne W. Jones II (Erin McGrath); his sisters Janice Green and Barbara (Vince) Tasso; his brother-in-law Timothy Shields; as well as several nieces and nephews. Also survived by dear friends Joseph and Susan Manning and Robert Belleard.
Wayne's family wishes to express their gratitude to Timothy Shields for all of his love and support over the years; the doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Peter's Medical Oncology Hematology, St. Peter's Hospital, and the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's for the compassionate care provided throughout the years and during Wayne's final weeks.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, February 26, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at The Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at the funeral home, beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
